I started painting when I was seven years old. My mother, by mistake, bought me an adult oil painting kit. I painted mostly animals, but have always loved to draw and paint things resembling what I saw. This love of drawing has continued to this day. My formal art training includes the Art Instruction Schools of Minneapolis, and a Minor degree in Art from MacMurray College.
I have explored watercolors, pastels, graphite, ceramics, photography, pen & ink, acrylic, and as art mediums. Today I work primarily in transparent watercolor, but continue to create oil paintings.
My goal in painting is to transform "actual places" into romantic settings. I usually visit the location at several times during the day to capture the desired lighting and/or a specific mood. I often start paintings on location, then finish them in the studio. I often create works as a compilation from several photos. I add accentuated color for attracting more interest in the subject.
